REWAISE – REsilient WAter Innovation for a Smart Economy

The Aqualia-led European REWAISE Project has just begun, involving 24 entities from 11 different European countries as a 5-year project that will shift the paradigm from a linear to circular water-smart economy.

On 9 September 2020, all the entities will come together for the Kickoff meeting to start working on a new “smart water ecosystem”, integrating a digital framework for decentralised water services and decision-making, involving all relevant stakeholders to embrace the true value of water, reducing freshwater and energy use, and recovering nutrients and materials for a carbon-free, sustainable hydrological cycle.

A network of nine living labs, led by major water utilities and grouped into three hubs across the main European climate zones (Mediterranean, Atlantic and Continental), will enable REWAISE to test and implement the technological innovations and new water governance methodologies achieved during the project. Through these living labs, REWAISE will enhance social engagement, adapt normative barriers, remove obstacles for sustainable value chains, and develop common digital tools in a holistic approach of water-smart society. The concepts will be scalable and replicable.

REWAISE will also create new market niches, incentivising water-related investments, and accelerating SME growth, enhancing market uptake of new raw materials production and logistics of recycled products, also bringing innovative processes for water treatment and energy production.

The 24European entities working together in REWAISE have extensive experience in areas related to the project such as water, energy, local governance, business experts, research and ancillary services:  FCC AQUALIA, SEVERN TRENT WATER, VA SYD, AQUANET, EUROPEAN NETWORK OF LIVING LABS, HIDROTEC TECNOLOGIA DEL AGUA, MALMO STAD, POLYMEM, RESOURSEAS, BLUETECH, AQUAPORIN, WE&B, ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING SOLUTIONS, SOLAR WATER, INSTYTUT EKOLOGII TERENOW UPRZEMYSLOWIONYCH -IETU, UNIVERSITAT DE VALENCIA, TECHNICKA UNIVERZITA OSTRAVA, FAKULTET ELEKTROTEHNIKE I RACUNARSTVA, CETIM, COVENTRY UNIVERSITY, LUNDS UNIVERSITET, POLITECHNIKA POZNANSKA, PKF ATTEST INNCOME and UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI DI PALERMO
